Trick to Reduce Headlight Glare While Driving at Night

Have you ever been driving at night and suddenly been blinded by the headlights of the car behind you? There’s a simple control in your car that many drivers overlook: the small toggle or tab at the bottom of your rear‑view mirror. Flipping this little lever can dramatically reduce glare, making your nighttime drive safer and more comfortable.

Day vs. Night Modes: What’s Really Happening

During the day, your rear‑view mirror reflects light normally, giving a bright and clear view of what’s behind you. At night, however, the high beams from trailing vehicles can flood your vision, causing discomfort or even a temporary blind spot.

Pulling the mirror tab into its night position slightly changes the angle of the glass. This reduces the intensity of light reflected into your eyes while still letting you see cars, taillights, and traffic conditions.
